Illustrations from the Great Brain Series
Although John Fitzgerald's descriptive writing can certainly stand on its own, the illustrations included in the books are outstanding, and do a wonderful job of helping to establish tone and atmosphere. The portfolio below contains every illustration from the series. With only one exception, every single chapter of every book contains at least one illustration. As you page through these illustrations, which are presented in chronological order, you will feel like you're once again immersed in the world of J.D. Fitzgerald and The Great Brain.
(Note: The last book, which was published about 20 years after the rest of the series, was pulled together from notes that were recovered after John Fitzgerald's death. This was the only book not illustrated by Mercer Mayer. It is clear, however, that new illustrator Diane de Groat attempted to maintain a similar style.)
